"I don’t think I ever went through trauma, but I have a hard time in relationships and much of the time I don't even like myself”

I hear this thought a lot in my practice as trauma counselor. This is because everyone seems to think that trauma has to be giant and dramatic to have a lasting effect on the brain.

The fact is that you do not have to have suffered abuse or witnessed violence to have experienced trauma or to be able to benefit from trauma therapy.

Any event or experience in our life that causes us to be nervous, feel unheard or disrespected, anxious, worried or perplexed can elicit a fight flight or freeze response in us. Sometimes these moments pass, but many times they leave a lasting and even unconscious impact; this is minor trauma. So, trauma can be anything from being called names when we were in Middle School, to witnessing a horrible accident, to fearing for our own physical, emotional or psychological safety.

Trauma is the root of so many unsettling thoughts, feelings and behaviors. When the root is dealt with through trauma counseling, lasting healing can come. You can be restored to your true self, whether the trauma was recent and large or long-past and felt minor.

If you feel that something in your past is obstructing your present, contact me today and lets discuss whether heart-centered trauma therapy is the key to your renewal.
